Meet Walmere — Master Crystal Skull Carver

Walmere has been hand-carving crystal skulls in Brazil for over two decades. He is one of a small number of master carvers working in the traditional style—shaping each skull by hand from raw rough, without the use of templates, moulds, or automated machinery. For Walmere, carving is not production. It is a quiet, focused act of revealing what the stone already holds inside.

He works primarily with Brazilian quartz, rare gemstones, and mineral specimens sourced from small mines across Minas Gerais and surrounding regions. Each piece of rough is selected personally for its energy, clarity, and internal character before carving begins. This is why no two Walmere skulls are alike—each reflects not only the stone’s natural qualities, but also the carver’s intuitive response to the material.

What Makes a Walmere Skull Different

If you have seen mass-produced crystal skulls sold on large marketplaces—often factory-moulded, uniformly shaped, and made from treated or low-grade stone—a Walmere skull will feel immediately different. His carvings have a subtlety and presence that comes from decades of experience and a deep respect for the stone. When we say “hand-carved,” we mean it in the most literal sense. Walmere uses diamond-tipped tools, grinding wheels, and hand polishing techniques to shape each skull. The process takes days, not hours. There is no template—each skull is an original. That is what distinguishes artisan carving from industrial production, and it is why collectors return specifically for his pieces.

His Stones

Walmere carves from a wide range of Brazilian stones: rose quartz, smoky quartz, trolleite, amazonite, fire quartz, sodalite, pink tourmaline in albite, cleavelandite with lepidolite, hematite in magnesite, green aventurine, and more. He selects each piece of rough himself, often visiting mines directly to inspect new material. The result is a collection of gemstone skulls that represents the true diversity and quality of Brazilian minerals—carved by a single pair of experienced hands.
